There are a total of 20 species of parrots that are located in the lower Tambopata. Six of these are macaws, four parrots and the remaining parakeets and parrotlets. Size ranges from the largest, the Red and Green MAcaw to the smallest the Amazonian Parrotlet. Of the six macaws the most endangered is the Blue Headed Macaw. However, during my stay i have recorded this species more than the Red Bellied Macaw. It msay just be my bad luck but it makes for some interesting conversations with fellow researchers!
Today i am back in town awaiting my boat to a new lodge so that i can continue with some more studies.
UPDATE
While visiting town i ventured to a local rescue centre to get a close up of one of my study subjects!

What variations are there in the size of the parrots that you have been investigating and can you get near enoiugh to take close up photographs
The size of the birds ranges from the larget macaw in the area, the Red and Green Macaw to the smallest species such as the Amazonian Parrotlet which was only recently discovered in 1985!
Red Bellied is very specialized specie, I think that have no other specie with such specialization, even its feet is specialized to hang on Palm leaves. Mauritia Palm Groves is more characteristic to Cerrado, Central Brazil, and Amazonia, but Amazonia have two particular Regions The Low Amazon and the Border. If you want to see Red Bellied Macaws you must find place where Mauritia is very abundant, so BHM habitat is a bit out of RBM habitats. RBM is more common in low parts of Amazon and very abundant in Cerrado. One could see a superb Carlos Yamashita picture of hundreds of RBM eating salt on the ground in a cattle farm in Rondonia state. To see this search on RBO magazine on line….
