Care in Captivity
Pet Suitability: Probably similar to that of Painted Conure
(P. picta): active, inquisitive, playful parrot. Moderate voice when excited. New birds initially shy and nervous, may remain so after acclimatisation. Susceptible to disease and stress during acclimatisation.
Captive Status: Rare to unknown.
Longevity: Probably similar to that of Painted Conure
(P. picta): 12-15yrs.
Housing: Probably similar to that of Painted Conure
(P. picta): aviary or suspended enclosure, minimum length 2m (6.5 ft).
Enrichment: Probably similar to that of Painted Conure
(P. picta): Pyrrhura conures are usually avid chewers, so provide plenty of unsprayed, non-toxic flowering, fir, pine, willow, elder and saskatoon branches, wooden block toys and vegetable tanned leather toys. Also push and pull toys, puzzle/foraging toys, swings, ropes and ladders. Also provide overhead misters or shallow water bowls for bathing.
