Care in Captivity
Pet Suitability:
Loud parakeet; may otherwise be shy. Will become accustomed to keeper very slowly. New birds hardy once acclimatized. Will tolerate other birds of same size outside breeding season.

Captive Status:
Rare

Longevity:
Probably up to 30yrs.

Housing:
Enclosure or suspended aviary, minimum length 2-3m (6.5-9.8 ft).

Enrichment:
Very vigorous chewer so provide plenty of bird-safe, unsprayed flowering, fir, pine, willow or elder branches, wooden block or vegetable tanned leather toys, heat sterilized pine cones. Enjoys bathing so provide overhead misters or shallow water bowls.

Nest Box Size:
Diagonal nest box 25cm x 40cm x 30cm (10 x 16 x 12 in).

3-4

24-25 days
