Care in Captivity
Pet Suitability: Medium-voiced parakeet. Active though initially shy. New birds susceptible to stress and cold, wet conditions. Becomes accustomed to keeper fairly quickly. May be housed with smaller birds.
Captive Status: Rare in captivity.
Longevity: Not available
Housing: Walk-in enclosure, minimum length 4.5m (13.5 ft).
Enrichment: Provide bird-safe, unsprayed flowering, fir, pine, willow and elder branches and perches, heat sterilized pine cones, wooden, puzzle, foraging and vegetable tanned leather toys.
Nest Box Size: Nest log 25cm (10 in) internal diameter and 60cm (24 in) high.
Clutch Size: 4-5
Incubation Time: 23-24 days
Fledging Age: 7 weeks
Hatch Weight: Probably 5g (0.2 oz).
Peak Weight: Probably 115-125g (4-4.4 oz)
Weaning Weight: Probably 120g (4.2 oz)
