Care in Captivity
Pet Suitability:
Medium-voiced parakeet. Active though initially shy. New birds susceptible to stress and cold, wet conditions. Becomes accustomed to keeper fairly quickly. May be housed with smaller birds.

Rare in captivity.

Housing:
Walk-in enclosure, minimum length 4.5m (13.5 ft).

Enrichment:
Provide bird-safe, unsprayed flowering, fir, pine, willow and elder branches and perches, heat sterilized pine cones, wooden, puzzle, foraging and vegetable tanned leather toys.

Nest Box Size:
Nest log 25cm (10 in) internal diameter and 60cm (24 in) high.

Clutch Size:
4-5

Incubation Time:
23-24 days

Fledging Age:
7 weeks

Hatch Weight:
Probably 5g (0.2 oz).

Peak Weight:
Probably 115-125g (4-4.4 oz)

Weaning Weight:
Probably 120g (4.2 oz)
