Care in Captivity
Pet Suitability:
Active, moderately noisy parakeet. New birds susceptible, later on hardier. Shy at first, then becomes accustomed to keeper. May be housed with other smaller birds.

Captive Status:
Fairly common in Australia, less so elsewhere.

Longevity:
About 15-17yrs

Housing:
Walk-in enclosure, minimum length 3m (9.8 ft).

Enrichment:
Provide bird-safe, unsprayed flowering, fir, pine, elder and willow branches; wooden and vegetable tanned leather toys, ladders, swings, different sized perches and puzzle/foraging toys.

Nest Box Size:
Nest log 10" x 24" (25.4cm x 61cm).

Clutch Size:
4-5

Incubation Time:
23-24 days

Fledging Age:
7 weeks

Hatch Weight:
Probably 5g (0.2 oz).
