Care in Captivity
Pet Suitability:
Has loud voice, is inquisitive, mischievous and a good mimic. Has the personality of a large macaw in a small package. May be nervous in homes with small children.

Captive Status:
Common and frequently bred in the US; less so elsewhere.

Longevity:
50yrs

Housing:
Aviary or suspended cage minimum length 4m (13.1 ft) or 3m (9.8 ft) for breeding with access to larger flight for part of year.

Enrichment:
Loves bathing, socialization; needs large, roomy cage; different sized perches; fir, pine, willow or elder chewable branches; ropes, swings, ladders, puzzle toys, bird-safe chewable toys (vegetable tanned leather and wood blocks).

Nest Box Size:
Vertical box 12" x 12" x 24" (30.5cm x 30.5cm x 61cm).

Clutch Size:
3 or 4

Incubation Time:
24-26 days.

Fledging Age:
10 weeks

Hatch Weight:
9-12g (0.3-0.4 oz)

Peak Weight:
280-304g (9.8-10.6 oz)

Weaning Weight:
248g (8.7 oz)
