Stephen's Lorikeet seems to have adapted to the presence an introduced predator, the Pacific Rat. If a more aggressive mammal was accidentally taken to the island, such as another rat species, the results could be catastrophic. Introduced diseases such as avian malaria and pox are also a potential threat.
