Did You Know?
The Perija Conure (or Todd's Conure) has historically been listed as a subspecies of the Painted Conure (Pyrrhura picta). However, in 2001 a review by Leo Joseph of patterns of geographical variation in neotropical parakeets has recognised three endemic parakeets as distinctive species. These are Pyrrhura subandina, Sinu Parakeet; P. caeruleiceps, Perija Parakeet and P. eisenmanni, Azuero Parakeet. These differ from the nominate Painted Parakeet in colouration on the face and bends of the wing.
