The immature male Black-lored Parrot takes about six months to develop its bright red bill.

Status in the Wild
World Population:
Around 5000

Range: Found on Buru, S Moluccas, Indonesia.

Habitat:
Found between 600-1700m (1968-5576 ft). Recorded as locally fairly common in montane forest in northwest of island. Has also been seen in lowland and hill forests.

Threat Summary:
Habitat loss the main threat; only a few patches of primary lowland forest remain.

IUCN Rating:
Vulnerable

Wild Diet:
Possibly fruits, berries, seeds and nuts.

CITES Rating:
Appendix II

Ecology:
Not well known but is active during the day, and also at night when heard calling. May move seasonally between mountains and coast.
