Blue-collared Parrots commonly make long flights above the canopy of the forest. This species is one of the only to do so; most other parrot species are resident making only small local movements.

Status in the Wild
World Population: >50,000
Range: G.s. simplex: Arfak and Tamrau Mountains on Vogelkop Peninsula, Irian Jaya.
G.s. buergersi: Mountains of New Guinea, except Vogelkop Peninsula.
Habitat: Found from 600-2000m (1968-6560 ft) in humid hill and middle montane forest, along forest edge and in secondary growth forest.
Threat Summary: No threats at present.
IUCN Rating: Least concern
Wild Diet: Feeds on seeds, fruits, berries and possibly nectar.
CITES Rating: Appendix II
Ecology: Shy and difficult to spot in dense foliage. May be seen in large flocks of up to 200 birds, flying overhead. Birds feed quietly in the canopy.
Clutch and Egg Size: Not available
Breeding Season: Probably October-January.
