The members of the genus Charmosyna, to which the Blue-fronted Lorikeet belongs, seem particularly susceptible to fungal infections, making vitamin A supplementation important for birds in captivity.

Status in the Wild
World Population:
50-249

Range: Buru, S Moluccas, Indonesia.

Habitat:
Apparently from 600-1000m (1968-3280 ft) in primary forest, some secondary growth and possibly in plantations.

Threat Summary:
This species has been decimated by the almost complete clearance of coastal forest on Buru, and the degradation of forest on other parts of the island.

Critically endangered
