The Blue-rumped Parrot is the only member of its genus, Psittinus.

Status in the Wild
World Population: About 100,000, but
abbotti may number less than 5000.
Range: P.c. cyanurus: Tenasserim, southern Burma, and SW Thailand, south through Malay Peninsula to Sumatra, Bangka Island and Borneo.
P.c. pontius: Siberut, Sipora, and North and South Pagai, in Mentawai Islands, Indonesia.
P.c. abbotti: Simeulue and Siumat Islands, off west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia.
Habitat: Found up to 700m (2296 ft) in lowland forests including open woodland, secondary growth, orchards, mangroves, dry forest, swamp forest, cultivated areas including oil palm plantations, dense scrub and coconut groves.
Threat Summary: Extensive forest destruction in the Sundaic lowlands has affected this species. All primary forest in the area is expected to be
gone by 2010.
IUCN Rating: Near-threatened
Wild Diet: Feeds on seeds, fruits and blossoms.
CITES Rating: Appendix II
Ecology: Not shy, gregarious birds found in groups of up to 20 individuals. Birds forage quietly in the canopy or fly swiftly above the forest, wheeling around the tree tops calling frequently.
Clutch and Egg Size: 3-5 rounded eggs, 24.5 x 20.0mm (0.95 x 0.8 in)
Breeding Season: February-May, Malaysia; June-September, Borneo.
