The female Blue-throated Conure tends to be heavier than the male, and more dominant and assertive.

Status in the Wild
World Population:
2500-10,000

Range: E Brazil, from southern Bahia south to Rio de Janeiro.

Habitat:
Found up to 400m (1312 ft), occasionally 900m (2952 ft) in primary rainforest or forest edge and in slightly modified natural forest near cultivated areas.

Threat Summary:
This species is threatened by continuing florest and habitat clearance. There is also some trapping for the bird trade, but this is a relatively new occurrence.

IUCN Rating:
Vulnerable

Wild Diet:
Feeds on fruits; other food plants include Talisia esculenta, Alchornea iricurana, Mabea fistulifera, Trema mirantha and Cecropia sp.

CITES Rating:
Appendix I

Ecology:
Gregarious; seen generally in flocks of 6-20 birds where food is abundant. Feeds in canopy and lower edge foliage.

Clutch and Egg Size:
4-7 rounded eggs, 27.5 x 20.0mm (1.1 x 0.8 in).

Breeding Season:
June-October
