Touit parrotlets have such unobtrusive and shy habits that they are frequently overlooked. Thus, it is difficult to determine the status of these parrots in the wild when searched for in the canopy.

Status in the Wild
World Population:
250-1000

Range: SE Brazil, from southern Bahia south to southern Sao Paulo.

Habitat:
Found from 500-1000m (1640-3280 ft) in humid forest on lower montane slopes.

Threat Summary:
This species is at threat from the fragmentation of its range by extensive deforestation for agriculture, urbanisation and mining.

IUCN Rating:
Endangered

Wild Diet:
Feeds on seeds of leguminous trees and fruits.

CITES Rating:
Appendix II

Ecology:
Social; seen in small groups of 3-20 individuals. Some seasonal and local movements are seen, mainly from lowland to higher areas over short distances. Stays in the upper canopy where it is difficult to spot as it quietly goes about its daily activites.
