The Duchess Lorikeet is very acrobatic in its feeding techniques: it hangs upside down, scrambling from one branch to another and sipping nectar with ease.

Status in the Wild
World Population: <50,000
Range: Bougainville, E Papua New Guinea, and Gizo, Kolombangara, Guadalcanal, Santa Isabel, Malaita, and San Cristobal, Solomon Islands.
Habitat: Found from 100-1350m (328-4428 ft) in forest and woodland, forest edge and tall secondary growth, mainly in mountains and hills, and occasionally in coastal coconut plantations and villages.
Threat Summary: The overall population of this species is believed to be naturally small, and may be threatened by any large scale international trade.
IUCN Rating: Near-threatened
Wild Diet: Feeds on pollen, nectar and fruits.
CITES Rating: Appendix II
Ecology: Feeds in noisy groups of 10-40 individuals in flowering trees and epiphytes, mixing with other species of lories. When resting or in smaller groups fairly quiet and inconspicuous.
