The Flores Hanging Parrot was, until fairly recently, thought to be extinct due to its very small range and population.

Status in the Wild
World Population:
2500-10,000

Range: Flores, Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia.

Habitat:
Found from 400-1000m (1312-3280 ft) in montane semi-evergreen forest. Apparently requires an abundance of fruiting figs.

Threat Summary:
This species is threatened by loss of habitat and fragmentation of forests.

IUCN Rating:
Endangered

Wild Diet:
Feeds on figs, fruits, nectar, buds, flowers and seeds.

CITES Rating:
Appendix II

Ecology:
Outside the breeding season birds gather in flocks of up to 20 individuals. Are easily overlooked in the wild due to their green plumage; mainly seen while in flight with whirring wingbeats.
