Status in the Wild
World Population:
3000-6500

Range: Found in E Mexico. Occurs as winter visitor in Brownsville, Texas. Feral populations in California, Florida, Oahu and Puerto Rico.

Habitat:
Deciduous woodland, gallery forest and evergreen floodplain wooded areas up to 1200m (3936 ft).

Threat Summary:
Wild bird trade, damage to nesting trees when trappers destroy them to get at chicks, loss of habitat.

IUCN Rating:
Endangered

Wild Diet:
Seeds, maize, berries, beans, acorns; feral birds have adapted to local food sources.

CITES Rating:
Appendix I

Ecology:
Occurs in flocks; larger flocks in winter, sometimes mixes with Yellow-cheeked (Red-lored) and Yellow-headed Amazons. Roosts communally.

Clutch and Egg Size:
2 to 4, rounded eggs, 36 x 27 mm (1.4 x 1.0 in).

Breeding Season:
April-May
