The Green Conure has been reported nesting in a colony in a cave in E Mexico.

Status in the Wild
World Population:
Not recorded

Range:
A.h. holochlora: E Mexico, from E Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas to C Veracruz and from SE Veracruz and E Oaxaca to E Chiapas, with seasonal movements to Pacific slope on Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
A.h. brewsteri: Highlands of NW Mexico, in Sonora, N Sinaloa and SW Chihuahua.

Habitat:
Found up to 2000m (6560 ft) in various wooded habitats except tropical rainforest.

Threat Summary:
An overall decline has occurred due to destruction of forest for agriculture and local and international trade.

IUCN Rating:
Least concern

Wild Diet:
Feeds on seeds, nuts, berries and fruits, and often takes maize.

CITES Rating:
Appendix II

Ecology:
Seen in large noisy flocks outside the breeding season, particularly where food abundant. Nest is usually located in tree cavity, rock crevice, hole in building or termite mound.

Clutch and Egg Size:
3-4 eggs, 38.0 x 25.5mm (1.5 x 1 in).

Breeding Season:
April, Tamaulipas, S Mexico; February-March, El Salvador; August, Guatamala.
