Status in the Wild
World Population: 50-249
Range: Restricted to NE Brazil, in Ceara, possibly in Alagoas and at Serra Negra, Pernambuco.
Habitat: Found up to 600m (1968 ft) in forest and forest margins at higher elevations.
Threat Summary: This species has declined due to habitat destruction, the original forest cover now reduced to only 13%. The areas in question are given over to coffee plantations (sun grown coffee versus shade coffee). The main threat is believed, however, to come from ongoing illegal local and national trade in wild caught birds.
IUCN Rating: Critically endangered
Wild Diet: Probably feeds on fruits, flowers, seeds and algae.
CITES Rating: Not available
Ecology: Usually seen in small flocks in swift flight; otherwise feeds quietly at the top of the canopy where is easily overlooked.
Clutch and Egg Size: 4-5 elliptical eggs, 26.5 x 19.1mm (1 x 0.7 in).
Breeding Season: Not available
