There has historically been much debate on the origin of this species - Forshaw (2006) notes it as a hybrid between the Slaty-headed (P. himalayana) and Plum-headed (P. cyanocephala) Parakeets, whereas Rana et al. makes mention the differences between the hybrid and P. intermedia individuals.

World Population: Not recorded
Range: Thought to be Himalayan area of N India.
Habitat: Found from 650-3800m (2132-12,464 ft) in dry bushland and secondary growth forest.

Wild Diet: Feeds on seeds, nuts, fruits, berries, flowers and leaf buds. Also takes some cultivated fruits.
CITES Rating: Appendix II
Ecology: Usually seen in small groups of 4-6 birds outside the breeding season. Seasonal movements are noted between latitudes; in winter birds leave for southern areas. Will associate with other
Psittacula sp. other than Slaty-headed and Plum-headed Parakeets.
Clutch and Egg Size: Probably 4-5 eggs.
