Did You Know?
At least one captive male Moluccan Hanging Parrot was observed to vibrate his tail rapidly when inspecting his nest. The reason for this was not known.

Status in the Wild
World Population:
Thought to be greater than 20,000.

Range: Found on Morotai, Halmahera, Kasiruta, and Bacan, North Moluccas, Indonesia.

Habitat:
Prefers primary and secondary forests in the lowlands up to 450m (1476 ft). Also found along forest edge, mangroves and coastal casuarinas, and at the edge of cultivated areas, around villages and sometimes in coconut groves.

Threat Summary:
Slightly affected by wild bird trade.

IUCN Rating:
Least concern

Wild Diet:
Forages in tall flowering or fruiting trees.

CITES Rating:
Appendix II

Ecology:
Seen singly, in pairs or in small groups. Keeps to the upper stages of the forest canopy. Noisy and conspicuous in flight. Feeds quietly amongst foliage.

Clutch and Egg Size:
Rounded eggs, 17.0 x 14.5mm (0.7 x 0.5 in).
