The Sinu Conure has historically been listed as a subspecies of the Painted Conure. Forshaw (2006) has recently listed it as a separate species, along with a number of others of the Painted Conure.

Status in the Wild
World Population:
Not recorded

Range: Lower Rio Sinu valley, Cordoba, NW Colombia.

Habitat:
Found up to 1300m (4264 ft) in humid forest and tall secondary growth forest in lowlands and foothills. Also seen at forest margins and in nearby clearings with patches of forest.

Threat Summary:
Due to its somewhat restricted range this species is thought to be declining in numbers, or has not ever been common. Also may be affected by land clearance.

Thought to be similar to Painted Conure: fruits, flowers, seeds and possibly algae.

Ecology:
Thought to be resident; usually seen in flocks of up to 15 birds. Seen flying swiftly across cultivated areas from one forest area to another. Shy and easily startled.

Clutch and Egg Size:
4-5 elliptical eggs, 26.5 x 19.1mm (1 x 0.7 in).
