In E Afghanistan the Slaty-headed Parakeet will most often make its nest in the old dwelling of the Scaly-bellied Woodpecker. They will also have nests close together with several other pairs.

Status in the Wild
World Population: Not recorded
Range: Himalayas from E Afghanistan and N Pakistan east through N India and Nepal to Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh, and N Assam, north of Brahmaputra River.
Habitat: Found 460-2400m (1509-7872 ft) in highland forest, hillside and steep valley woodlands.
Threat Summary: None at present.
IUCN Rating: Least concern
Wild Diet: Feeds on cultivated and wild fruits, nuts, berries, pinenuts, acorns, nectar and seeds.
CITES Rating: Appendix II
Ecology: Generally seen in small flocks or family groups, with larger gatherings recorded at end of monsoon season. Will mix readily with Ringneck, Blossom-headed and Plum-headed Parakeets.
Clutch and Egg Size: 4-5 rounded eggs, 28.5 x 22.0mm (1.1 x 0.8 in).
Breeding Season: March-May
