Adopt a Parrot

Nanday Conure

Pebbles sits somewhat expectantly on her perch, waiting for attention. She is a Nanday conure that has loved and lost. She has arrived at the sanctuary as an alternative home having been surrendered by a loving family who feared for her safety amongst their other parrots. The decision to leave Pebbles at the santuary was heart wrenching for her keepers, who considered her to be family. In the end, they put her safety and happiness first. Other parrots aren't so lucky.

Many parrots end up at parrot rescues each year. Some are surrendered by well-meaning but overwhelmed people, others land there after a life of abuse and misery.

Parrots are social animals. They need comfort, attention and physical activity. These things are sometimes forgotten in the business of life, and the end result may be tragic. At the very least it results in a multitude of parrot rescues, all with too many parrots to care for.

The best thing for these birds is for them to be adopted by patient, attentive pet people. When considering adding to your bird family, try adopting from a rescue. You'll be giving a parrot a much needed home.
