The atmosphere is alive with squawks and whistles as you walk down the winding path. The dense foliage is moist, green and thick, obscuring your view of whatever it is that is vocalizing in the trees above. The air is heavy with moisture and warmth, almost oppressively so. You feel sure this is the real thing, the wild, impenetrable rainforest.
Only it's not. It's the walk through aviary at your local zoo.
Your local zoological garden is only one of many places where you can volunteer your time to help improve the lives of captive and wild parrots. You can make a significant difference in the lives of captive parrots by volunteering at a zoological park or a local parrot shelter where there are many birds in need of attention. Or you can educate your local community with talks or presentations about the plight of parrots in the wild or the need for better captive parrot care. If your city has a bird club you can attend, volunteer for fundraising projects or give talks there. The possibilities are endless.
By volunteering for parrots in your community you can improve the lives of parrots from where you live.
"In the end, we will conserve only what we love.
We will love only what we understand.
We will understand only what we are taught."
