In striving to protect parrots across the globe, the World Parrot Trust initiatives cover extensive ground.
While many success stories have been achieved, there is still much work to be done. Profiled within our current projects are the World Parrot Trust 12, twelve species of parrots that highlight the threats to all parrots and all of nature.

Red-fronted Macaw
The Trust recently completed a preliminary survey of the nesting populations of these birds, from Bolivia. We located slightly over 50 active nest sites, which indicates a total of perhaps 500-600 birds remaining in the wild. Red-throated Lorikeet
This mysterious bird from Fiji has rarely been seen for the last century. Collaborating with the Fiji National Trust, WPT funded a six-month expedition to locate remaining birds, with the long-term aim of protecting the five parrot species found on these islands.

Aiding in the development of survival strategies for the Yellow-naped Amazon

Yellow-shouldered Amazon
The Yellow-shouldered Amazon (Amazona barbadensis) is a relatively unknown parrot limited to four small islands and a few outlying regions on the north coast of Venezuela. WPT was first involved with this parrot on the island of Bonaire in 2002. WPT researcher's are now investigating the population's ecology to identify ways we can help save this island gem.yellow-shouldered amazon »
