Here are the answers to last month's Test Your Parrot IQ.

1) Where do Amazon parrots come from – the Neotropics or Continental Asia? The Neotropics - Central and South America.

2) What is unusual about the Antipodes Green Parakeet (Cyanoramphus unicolor)? They will often eat carrion (dead flesh) of penguins and petrels and the eggs of seabirds. They are probably the only parrots to do so.

3) Does one see many Yellow-breasted Racquet-tailed Parrots (Prioniturus flavicans) in captivity? No. This species does not occur in captivity.

4) What species is this? Red-breasted Parakeet, Psittacula alexandri credit: Sam Williams

5) What is unusual about the way a Yellow-capped Pygmy Parrot (Micropsitta keiensis) nests? It is an arboreal termitaria nester (it nests in termite mounds situated in trees).

6) What do wild (and pet bird) Pale-headed Rosellas (Platycercus adscitus) enjoy doing? They enjoy scratching around in soil, somewhat like domestic chickens. If pet rosellas are permitted to play in the soil they should be dewormed before doing so.

7) Where does the Hooded Parrot (Psephotus dissimilis) come from? N Australia, in northern N Territory south to lat. 15 degrees, 30 minutes S and from Daly and Mary Rivers east to western shores of Gulf of Carpentaria.
