Mira Tweti

Mira Tweti is a journalist (Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Tacoma News Tribune,Village Voice, LA Weekly, and other newspapers and magazines) who writes about animal welfare and environmental issues with a particular interest in parrots.

She has written for http://www.ParrotChronicles.com, the Lory Society Journal, Bird Talk and other avian-related publications. Her exposés on the parrot trade for the Los Angeles Times Magazine (“Plenty to Squawk About”) and The Tacoma News Tribune (“Parrots in Peril”) garnered Genesis awards from the Humane Society of the U.S.

Tweti produced and directed “Birds of a Different Feather” a documentary about companion birds and is currently finishing a book about parrots. Tweti is also an ordained Buddhist nun in the Zen tradition.
