Threat Summary:
Clearing of forest for agriculture; also widespread destruction of páramo vegetation, caused by slash burning, has affected numbers.
Range:
Found in Cordillera Central, C Colombia.
Habitat:
Occurs in cold, scrubby and sparsely wooded mountain slopes at around 2400-4000m (7872-13,120 ft). May be found in potato fields.
Wild Diet:
Feeds on grass seeds on the ground, herbs and flowers.
Ecology and Behaviour:
May be nomadic outside of breeding season; gregarious, roosts communally on cliffs. Easily approached.
