Karen McGovern

Karen McGovern has been the curator of the Rare Species Conservatory Foundation since 1997. Her specialties are psittacine field ecology, captive management, and animal husbandry.

Her current area of study and field projects include conservation of the endemic Amazon parrots of Dominica (the Imperial and the Red-neck); field study and placement of artificial nest cavities on Abaco Island (Bahama Parrot); captive management and breeding of the critically endangered Red-browed Amazon; and documenting the nesting and breeding habits of feral populations of Green-cheek Amazons in southern Florida.

Karen is also a writer and artist, and is currently developing a line of nature-inspired jewelry in support of wildlife conservation programs. She lives on-site at RSCF in south Florida, surrounded by endangered parrots, primates, and African antelope.
